Are you a member of any loyalty programs? You know, the little plastic cards on your key ring or the ones that look credit card-like, or perhaps yo have some loyalty apps on your smartphone? Either way, you know how it works – if you are loyal to that company or brand they reward you by giving you special offers or discounts. For certain types of people (like me), you may be addicted to having them with you at all times – just to save a few more pennies. I’ve even driven back home again just to get my card and save way less than the cost of my gas to do it. Crazy, right? Loyalty programs – love them or hate them?
What is about us that causes us to be so attracted to that? Is it possible that it is based on how God made us, and even more importantly on who He is? We serve a God who is loving, caring, all-powerful and faithful to us! The words of this song say it so well:
“The Lord our God is ever faithful
Never changing through the ages
From this darkness You will lead us
And forever we will say
You’re the Lord our God”
In a world where a better deal for just a few dollars can take a lifelong loyal customer and turn them into past customers at the drop of a hat, it is so easy to feel like we have no loyalties around us, especially when it comes to relationships. God’s message to us is that we will ALWAYS have him, He will always be faithful to us, He will lead us through whatever we are going through.
“But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”
– Psalm 86:15 (NIV)
Have you taken God up on His Loyalty Program? It’s the best deal you will ever get.
